I have this problem too! I don’t hear it much anymore because its summer and the A/C is always on. But yeah just as you described.

I check in other site and is not a recall for that.. and the funny thing is that don’t do the clunk noise anymore after I post…hahahahaaa.

I think probably our A/C need WD40 cleaner in between clutch (when open) and the base of A/C unit..I remember way back a good friend specialist on Refrigeration and A/C on cars mention me to put at least 2 times a year WD40 there, start engine, run A/C and when clutch open spray inside few times, let close clutch and do again, and will clean shaft for corrosion..dirty..etc..when clutch close WD40 go all over be careful don’t get dirty, use old clothes..
I always did that with my other cars but this new Quest’s looks like A/C unit is under engine..must wait for only change..if don’t help this way.. WD40 don’t harm, just clean and lubricate for good.

Change Motor Oil and my friend mechanic lubricate the A/C clutch..start engine and run A/C,clean with WD40, no more noise..by sure I will lubricate each time change engine oil.
Problem resolved!! Thanks for your help Qtips, I was thinking was only me hearing the clunk noise, try yourself to lubricate the clutch A/C unit, dont harm at all only will clean and lubricate.
    Have a great weekend pal.
