The pads have small holes drilled in the sides for the springs that spread them.
When I bought the van, the deal was that the dealer gave me all new break rotors and pads on all 4 corners.
I opened the calipers last weekend to replace the worn pads.
One side was seized because the OEM pads are too large for the caliper and have to be ground down, which the dealer did not do. Other side was ground to the metal.
There was only 1 spring in each caliper.
How many springs should be there – 1 or 2 per caliper?
There are 2 holes in each pad, so looks like there should be 2 springs, one on each side of the pad.
There is only one spring, which is called ‘Pad retainer’ in the factory service manual. That’s part 18 on page BR-26.
There is another part #17 called pad retainer too, which is confusing. There should be 2 of those.
