Hello, I am doing the front struts on my mom’s 04 quest with 99.5k miles.
It make clunking noises over bumps, lane markers, etc.
I’m used to toyotas which only has the coil spring insulator, bumper and strut bellow.
I also am replacing the bearing, but I am confused on replacing spring seat which is above the coil spring insulator.
What other pars should I be replacing in this diagram.
Clunking over bumps in the road may probably be bad Lower Control Arm bushings. You can’t replace just the bushings, but have to replace the whole lower control arm. You can get them for about $80 each at RockAuto.com.
dont know which is which needs to be replace…
when replacing struts these parts should definitely be replaced:
54329N — can be made from gasket material
54325 — the bearing grinds if bad
other parts you can replace depending on how rusted they are, or, if made of rubber, how rotten. Strut bellows are usually in pieces and they’re not exactly cheap either.
Having said that, if you’re fixing clunking noise you really ought to jack it up on the frame or subframe and wiggle the tires and see where the noise is coming from.
