Have an 2005 Quest that has been pulling a hard top trailer with a 3000 lb GVW. The Quest engine does an excellent job of towing. Returning from the Rockies – yes it pulled the trailer up and down the Canadian Rockies – the hitch started to pull apart the rear sub frame it was attached to. Where the bolts were threaded through the frame the frame visibly cracked around 4 of the 6 bolts and it looks like one was mostly pulled through. The sound towing was like a hammer hitting the frame over every bump. The question is has this happened to others and if so were you able to put the hitch back on the frame and how??
We haven’t pulled a trailer, but, use our hitch for a ‘5’ bike carrier.
What is the tongue weight of the trailer?
Seems extreme to crack the sub-frame. I’d definitely report all details to the NHTSA website under defects.
We tow a 19′ aluminum boat. No prblems with the motor/transmission but the bolts pulled out of the frame.
