2005 Nissan Quest 4 speed Base model:
When the car is travelling at 25mph/40km+ in 3rd and downshift to 2nd on the gear selector… the rpm would spike up by additional 500rpm then settle into 2nd…

    Is this normal?

    rpm spike video on downshift

Also when the vehicle is warmed up say after 10 minutes drive, the trans would slips from 2nd to 3rd

    rpm spike video on upshift

    With constant throttle though…

I usually drive under 15 minutes. I notice this problem a year or so after ownership, and nissan is not helping… the problem is not getting better or worse after ATF fluid and ATF Drain and refill…
Currently odo reading is just over 50k km/ 31k miles

For all those who has 4 speed, does yours also act like this?

Any time you maintain the same speed and the car downshifts, the rpm will go up before trying to slow down. So yes it is normal.

Why are you manually down shifting the van?

The torque converter is designed to have some slippage or give before it goes into a full lock mode in order to allow the engine to maintain its momentum and also help maintain less wear and tear.
