After market wheels and TPMS

Wheel and Tire

I have a 2006 special edition with stock wheel covers. I want to liven up the look of the quest with some new rims. The only problem I face is the tire pressure monitoring system. I know I can purchase new valves with the chips in them, but how are they in compatibillity with non Nissan wheels? They also are quite expensive and I wouldn't care if the system was non functional due to ommitting the sensors, but the stupid idiot light on the dash drives me crazy. Is there a way to deactivate it non-savagely? I personally don't care what the the tire pressure is, and why on earth would Nissan put such a feature on a stock steel wheel that anybody would probably want to replace? Any help would be appreciated.

Most likely your original sensors will work in the new wheels you purchase, if not there are several options for aftermarket sensors that will work just fine, you will just need to get them reactivated after installing them in the new wheels. As for turning the light out the dealer could do this with a Scan Tool, but they aren't likely to do that.
