xm radio signal fails

Accessories and Electronics

I have a 2004 quest. I installed the Nissan XM radio as it was prewired and ready. I did install it with a Terk micro antenna as opposed to the Nissan antenna. Anyway, periodically the signal will just drop and the car acts like it doesn't know it has the XM radio unil I turn it off and restart it (almost like having to reboot it). Any ideas about the cause or a potential solution?

XM radio sinal drops

I installed a factory XM tuner in my 2006 Quest Van over the weekend. It seems to drop the signal periodically, too. I would expect some hiccups if I had bought an after market unit but I bought the whole kit from the Nissan dealer. If anyone can shed some light on this subject it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: xm radio signal fails

Just out of curiosity, where did you get your aftermarked receiver and antenna? Your problem sounds very similar to a problem I had with my external Roady receiver.

I just got a new 2007 Quest S today and want to add XM, and am looking for advice.

xm for quest

I got the Nissan receiver through an Infinity dealer in TX. The Bose radio that came with the car was xm ready and all I had to do was order the cable with the receiver and wire it up (I had gotten instructions on how to take out the glove box, remove the center console cover, etc. from my local dealer). I ran my own Terk micro antenna from the rear to the front, hiding the cable in the floor moldings.

The reception problem still persists periodically and I have to turn off the motor and restart it (almost like a reboot) and it works fine after that. I'm tempted to swap out the antenna to a Delphi old style green and yellow tabbed antenna. A bit larger, but perhaps it may be less prone to signal failure leading to the car not recognizing that it has an xm.
