Brake light switch issue? when on the brake pedal with key out dash light illuminates

with the key out of the ignition cylinder, when i step on the brake pedal the dash light and outside parking lamps illuminate. i think it might be a faulty brake light switch. anyone ever experience this problem?

I believe it's a feature

This may be a "feature" of the van. My '04 lights these up any time it detects activity apart from starting the vehicle. So unlocking the doors, openning a door or the hatch, and quite possibly pressing the brake pedal will activate these lights. However, once I insert the key into the ignition, it knows to turn the lights off.
