1993 - 1998 Nissan Quest

I have a 96 Quest XE that has shut down on me twice on the highway. Both times were during a long trip and engine temp was normal. First time was two years ago and second time was this week. Engine just shuts down with no warning. Heard a whining noise after and wont restart. I tried again after about a half hour and it starts up just fine and I continue on with no problems. I have taken it in and mechanics can't find anything wrong. Has had a tune up and new thermostat was put in a couple months ago. I am the original owner and have kept up with the maintenance. It gives us great mileage and has been good to us till now. Has anyone had similar problems before? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Engine Shut Down

We had the same thing happen to our 2002 Saab a few years ago. I was going 75 on the highway and I lost total power--including engine. Coasted to the shoulder and it started right back up. It happned two more times before I got it home. I talked to a friend who had a Saab with the exact same problem. On theirs it was the central computer (whatever that is) and it cost $1500 to replace after several trips to the dealer, who couldn't figure out what was wrong. I prayed the Saab started (it did) and drove it to the dealer, pretended I just wanted a bigger car, and traded it in on a Nissan.
