Site Promotion and New Members
I'd like to welcome our recent influx of new members. It's great to see fellow Quest owners coming together. Starting a new community is very difficult -- its very easy to get lost in the clutter of the internet. You can help this community grow.
I think QuestDriver.com has alot to offer Nissan Quest owners as a group. Most of the existing Quest forums are subsets of large Nissan forums, which are primarily geared towards their sports cars. Obviously, while we may think differently, the subject matter of vans will never be important to those sporty organizations. I think this is clear from the success of standalone Titan and Aramada communities that focus just on those trucks. We're a different market.
Anyhow - back to the point - welcome!
There are things as new founding members you can do to help this site grow: link to us. If you have your own page, or belong to other community sites and the subject of your Quest comes up, give us a link. If you use "Nissan Quest Forum" as the text of the link, it really goes along way to help us get noticed by the search engines.
Likewise, if you have a blog and want to syndicate our content, feel free so long as you provide the standard links back to this site. Offering syndication can be a risk for content theft, as you might have gathered from the watermarks on my images; but the risk is worth it if most people play by the rules. You can even add QuestDriver to your MyYahoo, MyMSN, etc. via the RSS. In fact, that's how I monitor if any new posts come in.
My goal is for this site to pop to the top of the lists when people search for "Nissan Quest Forum". I've taken steps to help ensure we're search engine friendly - to the point that every page should be valid XHTML even (PITA!). But there's little I can do alone to combat the flood of spammy sites out there with loads of crap content and nothing but invasive ads.
Speaking of ads, you have my word that the two panels of ads displayed will be the extent of advertising on this site. I merely use them in a vain attempt to break even on hosting costs. I hope that one day we have enough members and traffic that I can sell one or two banner ads and get rid of the Google ads completely. If the site ever becomes profitable, revenue sharing for moderators and frequent posters will be implemented if I can find a way for Drupal to support it. We're obviously a looong way off from that though: it takes most communities years to get there if they ever make it at all.
