Loss of Accelaration While Driving

1999 - 2002 Nissan Quest

I have a 2000 Quest that will randomly refuse to accelerate and I lose the ability to use the gas pedal. Its like it has run out of gas but the tank is full. The gas pedal doesn't respond to my mashing it and I have to limp to the side of the road, put it in park, rev up the engine, then pull back into traffic. None of the warning lights come on and everything else works fine. I've had numerous mechanics look at it and they all just scratch their heads. I did have the distributor replaced but it didn't solve the problem. I've been told the fuel system is fine. The weird thing is it usually happens on my way home from work in the exact same places along the interstate and on another road near my house. It doesn't matter what the temp is outside but I think being in slow traffic and then speeding up has something to do with it. Maybe even a small incline.

Oh, I also have a faulty speedometer and the odometer and cruise control don't work either. I've spent hundreds of dollars on this van and I need some solutions. Any advice is appreciated.

Loss of Accelaration while driving

Have you got your car fixed. I have the same model with the same problem, temp lost speed while drive uphill, speed meter on and off. I am wondering if the knock sensor play the role. I like to know how you get it fixed since it quite expensive to replace the knock sensor

00 Villager same problem FIXED

Our 2000 Villager would do the intermittent hesitation thing. The cruise control did not work and the check engine light was on with a Vehicle Speed Sensor code (P0500 - VSS malfunction). We took the Villager to 3 different shops. 2 put up the white flag after a couple of days. The 3rd, the only local state certified emissions repair shop, told us that the PCM (engine computer) was bad. I bought a PCM, replaced it and it would not start so we towed it to the local dealer. Turns out that the speedometer itself was bad and not the PCM (thanks Firestone for costing me an extra $160!). The dealer replaced the speedometer head assembly and the vehicle now works perfectly. Cost was just a tad under $700 which includes 3 hours of diagnostic time. Wish I had been smart enough to start at the dealer rather than listening to the people at the shops I took it to. Would have saved $400 in parts that it did not need.

This is our 3rd Villager. Both of the previous ones were super reliable and virtually trouble-free for nearly 200,000 miles. This one has been a challenge to start but hopefully, it's issues are fixed and we can resume piling up the miles on it.

Good luck with yours and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
