replace PAX 19" rims with new non-PAX rims

Wheel and Tire

I have a 2006 Quest 3.5 SE NAV/PAX 19" wheels. The tires have 30K and are nearing replacement. Since I don't have any interest in replacing them with new PAX wheels/tires, can anyone suggest a wheel/tire combo that will work?

Tirerack.com website did not give any suggestions so I called one of their reps and he wouldn't even comment because Nissan said there is no other wheel/tire combo that will work. Apparently it mentions a technical, safety and warranty issue to replace with any other wheels/tires. In addition, he told me that I could very well void the warranty on the vehicle if I use different wheel/tire combo. I dont wish to lose my warranty over this but paying for new tires and/or wheels is so cost prohibitive every 30-40K miles, that it is almost a necessity. Not too mention I am growing tired very tired of the loud, noisy, stiff ride that those 'truck' tires offer. Oh, almost forget, their like Ice Skates in rain or snow and I have to shovel my driveway just to get it in the garage.

As you can tell I am very concerned about this and am looking for a resolution or I might have to sell it soon and buy something else. The money I lose selling it will be less than replacing tires every 30-40K miles. Please help?

I did it already!

I have 2006 SE still under warranty (29K miles), replaced the PAX wheels with regular tires and had warranty service performed to reset flashing tire pressure sensor after wheels were replaced and it was still covered by warranty. So I would say go for it!

It was a big pain for me. I bought a car out of state, flew to dealer, bought car and thought I'd stop by Sams Club to replace back 2 tires for about $250 or so (10% left) before driving home. But, Sams had no idea what to do when I showed up with PAX tires. After several phone calls and a quoted price of about $700 just to replace rear tires, I decided I didn't want to fuss with them.

Long story only slighty shorter, I had to drive home on old tires, call several PAX dealers in state (most claimed you couldn't swap), then found one in ATL that would do it.

I ordered some reconditioned wheels from TheWheelWarehouse.com (highly recommend them, ask for Dan). Got 17 x 6 1/2 6-spoke wheel for an '07 Nissan Quest (stock wheels). They look great on van. Cost just under $1000 total to have them all shipped and they were like new when arrived. (they look similar to this: http://catalog.thewheelwarehouse.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=42_494&products_id=817) I'd have to find the exact part number because I had to order 07 wheels instead of 06 since nobody had the 06 in stock.

I took the wheels to the PAX dealer and bought standard tires from him since he was going take old tires off, I didn't really want to buy tires elsewhere (I don't have the exact size with me but could get it if needed). He charged right about $600 for tires plus installation to removed tire pressure sensors from PAX wheels and then install in the new wheels.

Everything installed fine and like I said, I had to get one of the sensors reset at a dealer because it was flashing, but otherwise, we're all taken care of (it was flashing before wheels were replaced too). I spent about $1,600 but now I have 60K tires and I'm well ahead in the long run.

I was going to list the PAX wheels in the classifieds on here too because I don't want them any more. But hopefully that gives you hope. You just need to find a local authorized dealer who's willing to swap. People claim that the wheel sizes aren't compatible, but it works just fine!

Good luck and let me know if you need any other info since I've already been through the process.

Thanks!

finally some hope, I thought I was doomed.... I really appreciate all your help and will reply when my tires wear out in the next year. the backs are already going bald. could you recommend a tire? did the ride get softer and less quiet with the new setup?
