2004+ Nissan Quest

Hi All,

New to the forums but not the Quest. 05 Quest S, cat converter has thrown the service engine soon light. Anyone had this happen so early at 60k miles? Luckily it is covered under the 8/80 warranty, about $1000.00

How about power tailgate that works when it wants to?

Thanks, Matt

Service engine soon

I have a 2004 at 50K it showing the "Service engine soon" light I went to a Autozone to use an OBD machine.. it show a "AF sensor lean shift detected" The manager said it should be covered by the dealer I dont know what it is but you know I have been having problems with my Cat converter too - sound wise.. By the way what did they do to your Cat converter did they replace it?

Cat failure

I went to the dealer today for the official computer read. It is the cat and is covered under the 8/80 warranty. The car still runs fine though. It was ordered by the dealer and will be replaced. The tech wasn't happy as I guess it isn't an easy change out.

Are you using 87 octane?

Yes. Thats was the car calls for and who can afford anything else?! My wife drives it about 350 miles a week. Luckily it is covered by warranty

Nissan tried the 87 route because they thought it would hurt sales figures if premium was recommended. Premium is actually recommended for your vehicle. I've been documenting the mileage since August 2k7. I am averaging 1.5-2mpg more with premium and there is a definite increase in performance. At that rate it becomes a wash and using premium costs the same as regular. It will most likely take your ECU 2-3 tank fulls to readjust to the premium fuel. If your tank was bone dry, it's only $3-4 a tank more for premium, but like I said, It's a complete wash for me at least with the added mileage I've been getting. All Nissan VQ35 engines should be using premium. Nissan did this with the Titan as well. Sales were down on the Titan so they changed the manual to recommend 87. The QX56 requires premium. Same exact engine is rated at 10 additional HP with premium.
