Limp Home Mode?

2004+ Nissan Quest

What should I do when my 2004 Quest goes into "Limp Home Mode"? This has happened three or four times now and not sure what it is...first thought it was the transmission itself. My mechanic said to bring it back to him when it happens. Any ideas what usually causes this problem?

Thank you all for helping with the posts!

My 2004 SL had this

My 2004 SL had this problem--persistently. It was still under warranty. Yours might be, too, since Nissan extended the warranty to 5 years.

I can try to dig through my notes to see what was done to rectify the situation, if anything. Something tells me that they were never able to completely remedy the problem which is one of the big reasons I ditched the vehicle less than 2 years into owning it.

Now I have an '06 SE purchased as part of a Nissan program to keep original buyers of the 04 Quest in Nissan products, and I've only had to visit the service department once (other than for maintenance). With my '04, I was there at least 20 times if not more--limp home mode being one of the many issues mine had.

Notice you have a 2006 Quest

Notice you have a 2006 Quest SE but probably NO PAX problem.
What size wheels and type of tires do you have?
Appreciate it.

limp home

It happened to me a couple of times on my 04. A technical service bulletin from Nissan says that it's the TCM (transmission control module) causing the problem. I haven't replaced it yet because of the cost and because it will reset if the van is turned off and restarted. If it starts to happen often then I will end up replacing it.
