Electronic Odometer

I just bought a 2006 Nissan Quest. The electronic odometer shows the mileage on the car except for one number, as it has 73,6?6 miles on it. Every once in awhile some random bars on the gas reader fade out too. Does this mean a fuse is loose or what is the problem regarding the display? Any ideas?

Those small materials are indeed very important. Their one of the support that holds it from the glass.

This is an LCD display, light up from behind.
When segments are missing, it means that the soft rubber strips, connecting glass to the printed board lost connection to either of those. It happens in the watches and electronic phonebooks all the time.
If you have lots of time, you can disassemble the cluster and try to gently wipe the LCD and rubber pieces as well as PCB contacts with electronic cleaning spray. That will take you a few hours, or a day.
