Need to change my plugs, but have some questions

Hi all,

I'm nearing the 105k plug change time on my 2004 Quest... I'm guessing this applies to other Nissan models too so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

It's one of the newer design where there aren't any plug wires - instead there's some sort of 'boot' that connects directly.

Do I need to replace all 6 boots like I would the older style wires when I change the plugs or are those good for multiple plug changes? I ask because they're crazy expensive - something like $40/ea.

Thanks!

Antenna

AM radio reception on my 2004 Quest sucks. If I'm stopped in the right place and the car pointing in the right direction I can get great reception. Anything other than that the signal fades in and out and is very frustrating. Is there an auxiliary antenna or antenna booster available to address this problem? Thanks.

Fog light install instructions

Can anyone give some insight into where to get a set of fog lights for a 2004 SL that will fit into the existing fog light housings? Is there a factory kit that includes a switch that integrates into the dash? Is the install difficult? Instructions with the kit? Info from anyone who has done this would be great.....

Need replacement molding; anyone know where to find it?

My wife tore off the piece of molding that goes above the rear license plate (see picture at http://picasaweb.google.com/gbosslet/Chetak/photo#5194116016595665762) on our 2004 Quest. It appears as though if I can get ahold of the part, I can replace it pretty easily. Anyone know where I can get the part number or order it online?

ALERT - ECM Malfunction due to Premature Corrosion

While driving, van started loosing power, brought it to my mechanic, he found the ECM was not sending power to the fuel injector. He called Nissan who said the ECM's have started corroding and most likely a hole in it; the location of the ECM on the 2004's has caused rusting problems, in newer models they have repositioned it to elimate the problem. I towed the van to Nissan, they said ECM is now working but yes is rusted and should be replaced, and I'm at 135,000KMs no longer under warranty, and part ($1200)is on a 3 week back order, so had to go get the van and park in my driveway until the part arrives. QUESTION - if Nissan are aware that the ECM's are rusting out prematurely due to bad part placement, why keep it a secret. I just bought out the lease last year, had I known of this problem I would have had the ECM replaced under warranty or not bought the van.

Rear power tailgate- works when it wants to

He all,

2005 Quest S. 60k miles.

The power tailgate works when it wants to. It will go for a month where it works as it should, then gives us trouble for a while, then works, etc...

Anyone had similar issues?

I was at the dealer today dealing with a bad catalytic converter that threw the Check Engine light and I asked if they have had any/many problems with the Quest and the tailgate. Of course they said no.

Thanks, Matt

Hi All,

New to the forums but not the Quest. 05 Quest S, cat converter has thrown the service engine soon light. Anyone had this happen so early at 60k miles? Luckily it is covered under the 8/80 warranty, about $1000.00

How about power tailgate that works when it wants to?

Thanks, Matt

Fuel gauge will not show more than half

I Have a 2004 Quest and just replaced the battery the other day. Now the Fuel gauge will not show more than 1/2 a tank. At first it was showing completely empty, then moved up to 1/4. I knew there was more than that, so I filled it up. After I filled the tank the gauge still only shows half.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

New to Quest!

Just bought a 2008 SE with 2000 miles on it. Got a great deal or else would have just stayed with S trim level.

Didn't want the Odyssey nor Sienna so this was the logical choice.

Just getting used to all the features and lack of...

Doors don't auto lock right?

Shouldn't there be a compass on the rearview mirror?
The catalog states that this is std on the SE.

Sliding doors don't open smoothly, a little stop n go action.

Squeaks and rattles around dashboard at high speeds.

Can't watch DVD on one screen and play video game on other?
On dodge you can watch two different movies. but it's a dodge.

2004 SL Brakes Important Info!

Good morning everyone. Just thought I would post this to all of us who have had problems with the brakes rotors warping, having to replace pads etc..

Went to the dealership for the oil change and tire rotation. Hit them with a laundry list of little items, one of them being a shimmy when braking. Reminded them they turned the rotors and put new pads on 7000 miles ago.

Well, low and behold, I got new brake hardware up front. New Rotors/Calipers/pads etc. Turns out that Nissan has finally put out a notice to dealerships that there is a problem with the system and they are replacing at no cost provided you are still within warranty.

Possible Transmission Problem

My Quest is experiencing tranmission flare; noticable from 2nd-3rd. The rpm spikes up by a couple hundred.

To all the Quest owners

Does your Quest shift like this?
Video

Mine is 4 speed auto. This problem occurs after the tranmission warmed-up after 15 mintues drive. No flare when the tranny is cold. There is nothing wrong with the techometer. The engine rawrs at the spike. Dealer(s) denied this "issue", and said it is functioning within spec & "You have an excellent tranny."... lol

Is this normal? I have driven a few 4-speed & 5-speed vehicle and none of them behave like this

New 08 owner!

Howdy ya'll. Brought home a new 08 Quest SE 4 weeks ago and I thought I'd wait a bit before giving my thoughts. Being a long time Nissan loyalist the choice was easy however, being smart we had to compare it to the Odyssey. In two words- no comparison! Simply, the Odyssey looks boring, the dash looks cheap and plastic-y and the ride was too twitchy while being lofty and it had a lot of road noise.

That is not to say the Quest is without fault... just when it comes to minivans, the Quest is heads and shoulders above the competition. We traded in our 05 Murano and the CVT, HID and Intelligent Key will be sorely missed which is a good place to start... Why are these not options on the Quest?!?! Am I going to regret not holding out for the new 09's? Hope not.

Hard start when cold

04 Quest takes forever to start when temps are below 0*. I found a TSB on this saying to test fuel pressure when this occurs. It's happened twice in the last month but I don't see a way to reproduce the problem without a drive-in freezer. Anybody else experience this problem and had it fixed? I hate to spend over $200 for a new fuel pump if it's not going to cure the problem.
