Winter rims and air pressure monitoring systems

Wheel and Tire

So my Quest needs a set of winter rims - I've got the tires ready to go. Looks like a Acura RSX 16" steel wheel will fit - I can pickup a set for $100 BUT its got a tire pressure monitoring system - do I need a whole new set of sensors put in the winter rims or can I run without it in the winter? Thoughts?

I remember when we got new tires changed last time the tire shop broke a sensor and it wasn't cheap to replace. 4x would really drive up the cost of winter tires.

Finally ditched PAX!

Wheel and Tire

I know that many of you are suffering this same dilemma.

After months of struggling to replace my prematurely bald PAX tires (worn on the sides at about 24K miles) I decided to scrap the plan and replace with after market wheels and tires.

Here's the longer story.

I lease a 206 SE with NAV so by default it comes with PAX tires. At around 24K miles the tires were worn out near the sides. Centers still okay but needed replacement. I spoke to Nissan service center and they said new tires would be about $1200. I almost Sh1t my pants. They told me that since they did not have the PAX equipment they would send the entire wheel/tire combo to Michelin and get all new back. I decided to do some investigation.

replace PAX 19" rims with new non-PAX rims

Wheel and Tire

I have a 2006 Quest 3.5 SE NAV/PAX 19" wheels. The tires have 30K and are nearing replacement. Since I don't have any interest in replacing them with new PAX wheels/tires, can anyone suggest a wheel/tire combo that will work?

Tirerack.com website did not give any suggestions so I called one of their reps and he wouldn't even comment because Nissan said there is no other wheel/tire combo that will work. Apparently it mentions a technical, safety and warranty issue to replace with any other wheels/tires. In addition, he told me that I could very well void the warranty on the vehicle if I use different wheel/tire combo. I dont wish to lose my warranty over this but paying for new tires and/or wheels is so cost prohibitive every 30-40K miles, that it is almost a necessity. Not too mention I am growing tired very tired of the loud, noisy, stiff ride that those 'truck' tires offer. Oh, almost forget, their like Ice Skates in rain or snow and I have to shovel my driveway just to get it in the garage.

Goodyear Tires BUMMER (semi rant) !

Wheel and Tire

Just had a flat on the way home last night on my 07 with only 3600 mi on a set of OEM Goodyears. What are the chances of running over a replacement blade for a Stanley box knife and having the thing go in the tread? It went in on the long side of the blade so we're talking about a 2 1/2 inch wide slash straight into the tread. I felt and heard it so I was able to pull over quick without the tire going flat but there was only about 1/8 of an inch of the blade visible so the thing went in about 5/8 of an inch.

Tire trashed! You could see a line on the inside of the tire where the blade pushed against it and a small hole.

Pirelli PZero Nero M+S reply

Wheel and Tire

Sorry for the new post, but for some reason I couldn't add a reply to the original thread. Anyway, I don't have any experience with the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S, but when I was considering a 235 55 17 tire for my Quest, I ruled out the PZero on the idea it might be too "sporty" for our van.

Wheel n00b question

Wheel and Tire

Will these fit on my 07 Quest?

2005 NISSAN MAXIMA
5 bolt x114.3mm. Rims size 18"x7.5 , off set 40.

I have been researching but I can't wrap my brain around the whole offset thing. Maybe someone in here has more experience with this kind of stuff.

Generally speaking, is it true that if you want to put wider tires you want more offset? The stock tires I have are 40mm offset and 225 tire. The stock tires for the wheels above are 245. What does that mean for the offset? Anything?

Thanks in advance.

Pirelli PZero Nero M+S

Wheel and Tire

It's time for new tires for my '05 SE and I am looking at these Pirelli PZero Neros 235/55/R17. They seem to get good reviews online overall. Anyone on here have any experience with these tires on a Quest or not?

Thanks

New Rims

Wheel and Tire

Hi everyone. Sorry for the new post but this was the only way I could figure out how to post pictures. I got my Quest about 2 months ago. It is a 2006 3.5 S Special Edition in Nordic White Pearl color. The wheels was the factory steel with hubcaps. The hubcaps look good, but I wanted something different. So I got a set of five star rims. The rims are 16's with the factory (GoodYear) tires. These rims was not my first choice, but they look pretty good on it. I had the tires filled with Nitrogen. This was my first time using it and to me, it does ride better than air filled tires. Once I put the rims on, it really exposed the brake calibers.
